The drawcord & lock style closure is what most people think of when they see a laundry bag. When you place this style of bag in the wash make sure you tuck the cord into the bag when you close it. This is to prevent the cord from getting caught on other items in the laundry or the spin bar in the machine. The zipper style closure makes the laundering easier because you do not have to worry about the cord hanging out. Make sure the zipper on the bag is made of a non-corrosive material so it does not rust.

The answer is that there are different options to choose from, and the truth is, it is most often a matter of preference.

Closure types:

Most of the mesh laundry bags at laundrybags.com feature either a drawstring or zipper closure.

1. Drawstring closure is a cord with a barrel lock closure that is industrial grade so that it can withstand higher temperature and hold up through the wash and drying cycle. By pressing the button on the barrel, the device can be moved up or down the cord to open or close the mesh laundry bag.

The advantage of this type of closure is ease of use and durability. The disadvantage is that when washing in industrial machinery with multiple bags, the cords can become tangled. This complication can be reduced greatly by pulling the closure tight before wrapping the cord once or twice around the top of the bag and then inserting the excess cord inside the bag.

2. Zipper closure Zippers for the mesh laundry bags are made of an industrial grade plastic, once again so that it will hold up to high temperatures through the washing and drying process. (By the way, metal is not a good idea as it will rust over time.) A hook and loop, (similar to Velcro) closure covers the handle to prevent the zipper from opening in the wash. See the image below. The zipper closure on the mesh laundry bags has the advantage of ease of use with the tangle free element being a consideration for many facilities that buy our mesh laundry bags in bulk. The disadvantage is the long-term durability of the zipper closure may be slightly less than the drawcord. This issue can be greatly reduced by not overstuffing the bag and putting undue strain on the zipper component. (Actually, it is a good practice to never overstuff a mesh laundry bag as it prevents water and detergent from moving freely through the clothing during the washing process in addition to air in the drying process.

3. External closures

There do exist particular settings in which neither a zipper nor drawstring closure is desired. In that case, many of our customers will order a bag that is called an open top mesh laundry bag, which is basically the exact same mesh laundry bag without a zipper or drawstring.

These types of bags are used by nursing homes, prisons, camps, daycare providers, adult day care, etc…to keep their clients items separate. Mesh net bags also come in different colors so laundry can be sorted by floor or a section of a facility. An example would be white bags on floor one yellow bags on floor two.

In addition to the various colors of bags you can choose between many types of bag closures. The two styles we sell are Drawcord & lock closure and zipper closure styles. The Drawcord & lock style closure is what most people think of when they see a laundry bag. When you place this style of bag in the wash make sure you tuck the cord into the bag when you close it. This is to prevent the cord from getting caught on other items in the laundry or the spin bar in the machine. The zipper style closure makes the laundering easier because you do not have to worry about the cord hanging out. Make sure the zipper on the bag is made of a non-corrosive material so it does not rust.

When I think about college I think of a place where many of us began our life of freedom from our parents. I remember my parent’s helping me pack up my car as I loaded it with the items I would need in the dorm room. The dorm room is initially an empty shell of a room where you basically start out new with very few possessions. Looking back now as a parent I realize I can make the transition to college easier for my children by providing them with a few small helpful items. Such as bedding, laundry supplies, and kitchen aids.

1. Bedding – Your child will need bedding for a twin size mattress. They will need a fitted and flat sheet for the bed. In addition to sheets they will need a bed spread. My parent’s provided me with a rib cord bedspread. This is a low cost high quality style bed spread that can handle lots of washings and use. It would also be a good idea to get your child pillowcases. You can get low cost high quality pillowcases by the dozen that will look nice on a dorm bed.

2. Laundry Supplies – Your child will need laundry supplies. Make sure your child knows how to do the laundry and has something to carry the laundry in. A large nylon laundry bag is a perfect gift for the student in the dorm. You can choose from a variety of color laundry bags. Some come with a pocket on the outside to carry soap and other supplies. I would suggest sending soap, a laundry bag, fabric softeners, and several rolls of quarters to pay for the washing and drying machines.

3. Kitchen Aids – Your child will most likely eat at the dining hall on campus. However, sending a set of low cost dishes and utensils with your child is a must. Mesh Laundry Bag: Everyday Uses at a Lake Cabin

When most of us think about laundry bags we think of a place for storing dirty laundry. This is true but the actual uses for laundry bags are endless. I recently took a trip to our lake cabin located in Northern Minnesota. As I looked around the cabin I found items that should be stored in mesh net laundry bags. A mesh bag allows items placed inside the bag to breath. This is a great bag to store items that get wet and need to dry off for storage. You can simply place the items in the bag, hang it up, and the moisture evaporates easily.
1. Water shoes are an ideal item to store in a mesh net bag. At our cabin we have many sizes of water shoes and normally we stored them in a drawer. The drawer was getting water damage from the shoes and it wasn’t a real practical place for storage. I recently started storing the shoes in a bag. I simply hang the bag up in the shed and the items air and drip dry. It keeps the shoes nice and organized.

2. Hunting Decoys are also an ideal item to store in a mesh net bag. Again they are an item that gets wet and needs to air and drip dry. We used tothe decoys in an old burlap sack that had seen its better days. The burlap sack was rotting from the moisture build up of many years of use and had real strong mold odor. I also placed the decoys into the bag for storage. I have eliminated the odor of the burlap sack and now have a very convenient carrying case for my decoys.
3. Scuba / Snorkeling Equipment at our cabin is now stored in a mesh net bag. Before we used to store these items in with the water shoes. Again the bag has allowed me to better organize an item that gets wet and needs to air and drip dry. If I were a person that was really into scuba diving as a full time hobby a whole set of bags would come in handy.
4. Life Jackets were historically stored on hooks and large nails hanging off of the walls of our shed. We now take the life jackets and place them in several bags. It has made it easier to organize the shed. Again these are items that get wet and they dry easily in this style bag. This also makes it much easier to carry the items down to our boat.
